Crisis on NBC

"Crisis" review by Suzanne
Airs Sundays 10/9c on NBC

Sunday at 10 is a terrible time slot. Many shows have been put there that were pretty good, and yet they got canceled early. Even some venerable shows like "Desperate Housewives" and "Brothers & Sisters" only lasted there so long before they lost viewers. I don't know why, but it's the death slot. Even "The Mentalist" has not been doing well there lately.

Crisis is a good show and I hope it makes it to at least another season, but so far the ratings have not been great. I enjoy the show. It's about some kind of conspiracy to expose a government cover-up. In the first episode, a bunch of teenagers are kidnapped by a security team full of people they trust. These are not just any ordinary teens. They're the sons and daughters of important and wealthy people.  They're going on some field trip when they're taken.

Then things get really weird when we learn that one of the parents, who is chaperoning the trip, is really the guy behind the whole plot. This is one of those shows where you can't take anything for granted because Things Are Not What They Seem.  It's similar to "Hostages" and other shows like it.

I think it has some really interesting characters and plots. I'm very glad to see Gillian Anderson and Dermot Mulroney, who head the cast. There are many fine actors in it that you'll probably recognize from other shows, too. Lance Gross plays a secret service agent that is shot trying to protect the kids, but he gets away from the bad guys and rescues one of the kids. The actors who play the teens also do a very fine job.

Personally, I think these type of shows (any type where you have to tune in every week or risk missing too much) are really risky, and I wish the networks would stop making so many of them. Obviously your average person can only tune in to a few shows like this regularly. The rest of the time, they're watching sporadically or catching an episode or two online or On Demand. Stuff happens that gets in the way of our TV watching. Or we miss an episode when the DVR doesn't record it. So if you miss ONE episode in a show like this, you're totally lost, and you give up watching.  Whereas if you watch, say, NCIS, it's fine if you miss an episode.

Anyway, you should check it out. There's only been a few episodes so I'm sure you can watch them online or On Demand! It's worth watching.
