"She Made Them Do It" review by Suzanne
Premieres Saturday, December 29 at 8/7c on Lietime

This is a pretty tawdry Lifetime movie. It has everything: drugs, lesbians, sex, murder, and women in prison! The protagonist (or perpetrator), Sarah, sells drugs with her boyfriend, and then, from what shows us, he shoots and kills two other people while she is out. She did say "get rid of them" but we don't see that she gave any other instructions or killed them herself. Since they actually show that she is not there, it makes you think through the whole movie that her boyfriend did it, not her.

However, they both quickly get caught and arrested, and she goes to a women's prison. She is very smart and makes friends with everyone, as she tries to get her conviction overturned. She maintains her innocence through-out the movie, but no one believes her except for all of the other offenders. She is very manipulative, charismatic, and beautiful, so she is good at getting people to believe whatever she wants them to believe, and to do things for her. She also sleeps with many people, both men and women.

She then gets a guard and some other people to help her escape from prison, and then she hooks up with this local rich guy.  It seems to work for a while, until this very determined (and handsome!) U.S. Marshall catches her. Right before they catch her, though, we see that she has manipulated the old rich guy into killing his wife so that they can go away together.  That's the first time we know for sure that she is not innocent. It's kind of weird the way they did that. Usually they let us guess until the end. They don't usually show us something that probably didn't happen and make us think that it's real.  Like Sarah, I found this movie to be very manipulative.

Jenna Dewan-Tatum does a fabulous job as Sarah. At times she reminds me a little of Rachel Bilson or Mila Kunis, but this is a much more serious character than the comedy roles I have seen them do. MacKenzie Phillips plays Jamie, one of the women that Sarah uses. I didn't recognize her at first. Steve Bacic plays the U.S. Marshall. I really love seeing him... I hope he gets some more good roles. He was great in Flash Gordon and Smallville, among other shows. John Walsh plays himself, so that was fun to see.

If you like these types of movies, you should enjoy this one. It moves along well and has a couple of surprises in it.

MORE INFORMATION:

She Made Them Do It follows the twisted life of Sarah Pender a charismatic, intelligent young woman who would become one of the country’s most sought after fugitives.  Purportedly on the road to a productive and successful life after being abandoned by her mother at the age of three, Sarah enrolls in college.  While she was dealing drugs out of her home with her boyfriend Rick Hull as a means to pay for school, Sarah’s two roommates are tragically shot to death in what appeared to be a deal gone bad.  Although she claimed she was not home when the murders occurred, all evidence pointed to Sarah and Rick, and she was eventually found guilty of masterminding the double murder and sentenced to 110 years in prison.  A model inmate studying law in hopes of appealing her case while also helping fellow convicts with their cases, Sarah becomes increasingly desperate as her appeals continue to be denied.  At the end of her wits, she uses her charm to seduce a prison guard and convince former cellmate Jamie Long to help her escape, leading authorities on an intense search that attracts national attention and puts her on the top of the list of America’s Most Wanted.
