Ripper Street

"Ripper Street" review by Suzanne
Airs on BBC America Saturdays 9/8c

It's rare to see a truly great show come along, but this one did. It is fantastic.  Of course, many British shows are very good, so it shouldn't be too much of a surprise.

"Ripper Street" takes place in London after Jack the Ripper has murdered girls and then disappeared. Inspector Reid solves other murders, with the help of his good sergeant Drake, and an American, Dr. Jackson. Jackson is probably the most fascinating of all of the character, since he seems to know more about corpses and forensics than people did back then, but he also has a mysterious past that we learn about during the show.  Reid's daughter drowned, and he blames himself for it, but he also thinks she might have survived. His marriage, however, has not survived as his wife throws herself into church and good works, and he throws himself into his own detective work. Every single character of the show is interesting and has many layers.

Each episode and its main mystery also has many layers. It's not often you such wonderful and complex writing. Originally described as an 8-part series, it has been renewed for a second season, which will return in 2014.  You are missing a lot if you don't watch this show!

We need more episode guide recap writers, article writers, MS FrontPage and Web Expression users, graphics designers, and more, so please email us if you can help out!  More volunteers always needed!  Thanks!
