some of the cast of My Life Is a Lifetime Movie

"My Life Is a Lifetime Movie" review by Suzanne
Premieres October 17 on Lifetime

This is a reality show, although they are calling it a "hybrid unscripted drama", whatever that means. They have these people (mostly women) who have had some terrible thing happen to them, and I guess their stories are not interesting enough to make into a real movie, so instead they have them, and their families, tell their story, while unknown actors act parts of it out on camera.

In the one episode I saw, they had two stories in their 44 minute show. The first story took up 30 minutes. It was about a young teacher in a small town in Iowa who was accused of having sex with a teenage boy.  Trouble is, the story is not all that interesting. It has some graphic details, which is why, I guess, they spent most of the program on it.  They kept saying how pretty this woman is, but she's not. The actors who play the people, of course, are always way better looking than the actual real people. This teacher is a dumpy blonde, but for some reason they kept saying how pretty she was. Maybe that was before she had the 3 kids, I dunno. They had her, and her husband, her friends, and one of the students, and some other people in the town, talk about what happened to her. It was really dull, and the graphic sex parts were just kinda crude.

The second story only took up 10 minutes, but it was way more interesting. I wish they had spent more time on it. I wanted to know more details. Perhaps they couldn't get enough people to talk about it. It was mostly just this one woman in Miami who went through the ordeal and discussed it on camera.  Her second husband turned out to be a Cuban spy! She thought he was this heroic guy who had escaped Cuba and was involved in this rescue organization, but really he had this secret life as a spy, and one day he just left and went back to Cuba. Oh, and he might have been responsible for this plane getting shot down. Poor woman, but that was a very cool story.  They should have made that one into a movie.

It's an interesting idea, I suppose, for a reality show, but they should know which stories are the most interesting and spend more time on them.  You might check it out and see if you like the show!

Hybrid Unscripted Program Paying Homage to Cultural Impact of Network’s Movies to Premiere October 17

LOS ANGELES (September 13, 2012) – For nearly three decades, Lifetime original movies have been a part of America’s cultural fabric.  Uniquely capturing shocking scenarios involving scandal, deception, love gone bad, dark secrets, murder and other unscrupulous behaviors, what has made these movies so resonant is the fact many of them are true and now, for the first time, viewers will be hearing from the real people behind these fascinating stories.

Inspired by the cultural impact of its genre-defining movie brand, Lifetime has ordered the all-new hybrid unscripted series My Life is a Lifetime Movie™, which will premiere on Wednesday, October 17, at 10:00 PM ET/PT.  With a fresh and irreverent tone, My Life is a Lifetime Movie will weave together highly cinematic recreations and first person interviews with women in peril who recount their jaw-dropping experiences that are so astonishing and so unbelievable, that they must be true.
