The Americans poster

"The Americans" review by Suzanne
Airs Wednesdays on FX at 10:00pm

I enjoyed this show a lot more than I thought I would. It's very well done. It shouldn't be a surprise, considering that the writers are from shows like "House" and "Justified".

The show takes place mostly in the 1980's. It's about a suburban couple that is secretly spying for the Russians. they are deep undercover and have been living here for years. They even have two kids, who have no idea about their lives. The "parents" are just agents and, at the beginning of the show, they aren't lovers.  She is very dedicated to her job, much more so than he is. He is getting tired of it and would rather retire and stay there, be a real American.

They both have to do a lot of terrible things that they don't want to do, such as pose as a prostitute to get information, or hurt innocent people. Their situation becomes even more complicated when an FBI agent moves in next door. It sounds kind of silly and contrived, but they do a great job with the idea.

You will no doubt enjoy the action, and the great acting, and the twists and turns of the plot. It has a wonderful cast, starting with the two main stars Matthew Rhys and Keri Russell. I'm glad to see them again, and in such a great show!
