Primetime Show Reviews
review by Suzanne
Premieres Sunday, June 12, at 10 pm ET/9 C on Lifetime
This is a cop show (it was called Exit 19, but they changed the
name) starring Ally Walker, who is a great actress. She was wonderful on the
show "Profiler". This show is not nearly as good as that one. It's also
not as dark or dramatic. It's more of a light, fun show, like, say, "Castle"
(but not as good as that show, either). At least, based on the first episode
that they sent me. Sometimes shows do improve after the first episode. Not that
it's bad, it's just...okay. If it weren't starring such an amazing actress, I
wouldn't bother to watch it.
She plays Gloria, a somewhat-quirky police detective who is
brilliant but tends to annoy people a lot, especially the people she works with.
She has two small sons at home, and they all live with her brother (I missed
exactly why, but I think she is divorced and had a trauma where she was burned
and had to recover). She has to juggle bring a cop with being a single mom. I
don't think that has been done too often, at least that I can recall; not where
the focus of the show was on the mom as the main cop. That makes it more
interesting, and I hope we see a lot more of that.
The rest of the cast is fine. Tisha Campbell-Martin, who has
been on many TV shows, plays her partner. Miguel Ferrer, who you may
remember as the head doctor on "Crossing Jordan", plays the head cop here. The
show has a lot of quirkiness and somewhat fun characters. It's not quite as
quirky as "Monk", though, to use one example of an oddball detective with quirky
I look forward to seeing where the series goes from here!
Ally Walker (sons of Anarchy, Profiler) stars in the new
Lifetime Original Series The Protector, premiering Sunday, June 12, at 10 pm
(ET/PT). The 13-episode series joins Lifetime's Sunday night line up, premiering
immediately following the fifth season finale of Army Wives.
The Protector centers on divorced mother Gloria Sheppard (Walker), who juggles
her demanding personal and professional life as an intuitive LAPD homicide
detective while raising two boys, Leo (Thomas Robinson, Heroes) and Nick (Sage
Ryan, The Closer), with the live-in help of her troubled younger brother Davey
(Chris Payne Gilbert, Dexter, Bones). The series also stars Tisha
Campbell-Martin (Rita Rocks, My Wife and Kids) as Gloria's partner Michelle
Dulcett, Miguel Ferrer (Crossing Jordan, Traffic) as their boss Lieutenant Felix
Valdez and Terrel Tilford (One Life to Live) as police officer Ramon "Romeo"
