Primetime Show Reviews

Pan Am cast

"Pan Am" review by Suzanne
Sundays at 10/9c on ABC

This is another one of those shows set in the 1960's. It is better than the late, unlamented "Playboy Club". The acting is good, and the writing is pretty clever. These are not just stewardesses, but spies. And even better, it's based on some true stories, so it has the air of authenticity.

Even though the women are basically waitresses in the sky, the shows does not degrade them. In fact, that is one of the few things that is not authentic about the show. They don't let them smoke; and they don't show the women being treated too much like sex objects. If you want that kind of reality, go watch Mad Men.

Still, the show is entertaining. Christina Ricci and the other actors all do amazing jobs, and the writing is very good. What more could you ask for in a drama? It has romance, adventure, spy intrigue - the works.
