Necessary Roughness

"Necessary Roughness" review by Suzanne
Airs Wednesdays at 10/9c on USA Network

I enjoyed watching the first episode of this show. Callie Thorne, who has been in many great shows, stars as Dr. Dani Santino, a Long Island therapist. She throws out her cheating husband, and then she gets involved with a football team. They have a player with anger issues who can't catch the ball. Besides her children, her ex, her gambling-addict mom, and her nosy best friend, Dani has many handsome man to deal with on the show, which makes it interesting.

The show is loosely based on the life of a real-life therapist.  It will be interesting to see just how far Dani gets involved in the lives of the people on the team.  She is already romantically involved with handsome trainer Matthew (Marc Blucas, another very seasoned performer, but probably most known for playing Riley on "Buffy the Vampire Slayer").  There is another guy who works on the team, Nico (Scott Cohen), who is also very handsome and has a rapport with Dani.

She also has two kids who are rebelling and not happy about her divorce.  It's a fairly complex show, with great acting. I really recommend it.  Callie Thorne was really awesome when she was on "Homicide: Life on the Street" years ago, and she has done many wonderful shows since then. So far she is great as Dani! The show can be kind of light and fun, but it has moments of drama as well.

Series Premieres June 29 at 10/9 starring Callie Thorne, Mehcad Brooks, Marc Blucas and Scott Cohen

Dr. Donna Dannenfelser is a revolutionary woman, breaking through gender barriers and becoming one of the first full-time female psychotherapists to work for a professional sports team. NECESSARY ROUGHNESS is inspired by her story as a psychotherapist, certified hypnotist and dream analyst over the past 20 years. At first solely focusing on women's issues, Dr. Donna soon found herself the mental health clinician for the New York Jets. She councils high-profile professional athletes as well as their wives and family members. Dr. Donna serves as supervising producer on new USA original series NECESSARY ROUGHNESS, which premieres on WEDNESDAY, JUNE 29 at 10/9c.

NECESSARY ROUGHNESS is about Dr. Dani Santino (Callie Thorne), a Long Island psychotherapist who helps to rehabilitate a bad boy professional football player (Mehcad Brooks) whose off-the-field antics threaten his career and the team franchise. Her career thrives and soon finds herself as the most sought-after therapist for high-profile clients.

Although her career is reenergized, it wreaks havoc on her life as a newly minted single mom of two teenagers and strike a balane between two worlds.

The series stars Thorne ("Rescue Me," "Californication"), Marc Blucas ("Knight and Day," "Buffy, The Vampire Slayer"), Mehcad Brooks ("True Blood") and Scott Cohen ("Law & Order: Trial By Jury").

NECESSARY ROUGHNESS is currently filming in Atlanta, GA.
