Primetime Show Reviews
review by Suzanne
Airs Tuesdays at 9 PM ET/PT on Lifetime
This is a horrible show about terrible people. They should all
be put in jail and have their kids taken away.
Dance Moms is about this dance studio in Pittsburgh where they train little
girls to dance in competitions (and for a future in dance, presumably). The
woman who runs the studio, Abby, is like a drill instructor. She works the kids
hard and says horrible things to them.
The mothers are even worse. They are like every bad stage mother you've ever
seen. All of these people are awful. This is the kind of show that makes you
want to take a shower afterwards.
I'm all for the arts, but these little girls are being treated badly, and I
don't know if they really want to be there. They sure do cry a lot, but some of
that may be encouraged for the camera. It's hard to know with a reality show,
since so much of it is faked.
It certainly doesn't help that the woman in charge of the dance studio, Abby, is
a big fat woman that barks everything. The little girls are like the ones that
compete in beauty pageants. They wear lots of makeup with their costumes. These
are young girls, probably of around 8 or 9. You don't really see much dancing.
You see more yelling than anything.
When they do show the dancing, it's fun and entertaining, but it's just not
enough to make up for the rest of the show.
I don't like reality shows, so you can take this review for what it's worth. I
especially don't like the kind that exploit people, and this one reeks of that
type of exploitation. If you like really trashy TV, you will probably like this
Update: I have seen the season finale. It's pretty much the same
as what I said above.

We're working on behalf of Lifetime in support of the new series, DANCE
MOMS, which follows devoted dance instructor, Abby Lee Miller as she works
together with over-the-top mothers who go to great lengths to help their
children's dance dreams come true.
DANCE MOMS will pose the tough questions many ask about what really goes
on behind the scenes and I think your readers will enjoy discovering how
talented these young girls really are! The show kicked off with its
premiere last Wednesday...

UPDATE: The show returns January 10th. I still think it's a
terrible show. Maybe even worse. I don't know why parents are allowed to put
their kids on TV and then have them abused and humiliated.
A lot of people say that reality shows are not real and that
they are completely fake. I really hope that is the case with this show and that
everyone is "in on it". Because then that means these poor kids are not really
being yelled at and embarrassed publicly. It means these moms and the woman Abby
are not really as mean as they seem.
One poor girl gets yelled at by Abby because her mom couldn't
make it to rehesrsal - she had to work. Now, how is that the poor girl's fault?
Then, later, her mom and Abby get into a shouting match. There's a lot of
shouting, fighting, and back-stabbing. The only good parts are watching
the girls dance.
I just hope they don't all end up in therapy...
The episode I reviewed is "Everyone's Replaceable", in which the
departure of Cathy and Vivi-Anne creates an opportunity for Abby to change the
make up of her dance group with a big open audition. Holly's busy career
schedule forces her to miss Nia's rehearsals and competitions, which Abby sees
as a lack of Dance Mom dedication. Abby also has to come to terms with Chloe's
