Primetime Show Reviews
"No Ordinary Family"
season premiere review by Suzanne
Airs Tuesdays 8/7 c on ABC
The show is very derivative. It reminds you a little of The
Fantastic Four, a little of The Incredibles, a little of Smallville...it doesn't
have much going for it that is very different or interesting. It's basically a
family drama, like something you might see on ABC Family, except the characters
have super powers.
I really like Julie Benz, and I like superhero shows, so I
really wanted to like it, but it didn't really do much for me. Perhaps it will
grow on me. So far I've only watched one episode. It just seemed like the mom
and dad were kind of selfish and the family was not very likable or realistic.
The family goes on a trip to South America and crashes their
plane in a river. They survive but later find out that they each have super
powers. The father has been feeling disconnected from his family, and kind
of like a loser, but his powers give him a reason to feel needed. The powers
also give the whole family something in common, and something to talk about.
I just wish I could get more excited about it. It's not as well done
as, say, Heroes, or Human Target.
