"The Good Wife" Series Premiere Review by Suzanne
Airing on CBS Tuesdays 10/9c

This is a very good show, and the TV lineup could definitely use another lawyer show to fill the void left by shows like "The Practice", "Boston Legal" et al.  Julianna Margulies stars as Alicia Florrick, a woman who used to be a lawyer 15 years ago, but she gave it up for her husband and children. Then she is thrust into the spotlight when her husband, a politician (Chris Noth of "Sex and the City" and "Law and Order), is caught with a prostitute. Yes, it is very similar to recent public news, such as what happened to Elliot Spitzer in New York.

The first episode is all about how she is instantly thrown into a case and has to cope not only with trying to get a woman acquitted of her husband's murder (when all odds seemed stacked against them both), but she has to face spiteful comments and suggestions from people who know what her husband did or just plain don't want her to be in the law firm.  She also has to cope with her husband, who's in jail, and her mother-in-law, who is helping take care of her children.  She and her husband are not yet divorced, but it looks like they may be headed that way.

Of course, she deals with it very well, but it's a struggle.  We feel bad for her because they make her so sympathetic, yet it's clear that she is a very strong, capable lawyer as well. It's a good show and showcases Ms. Marguilies' talents very well. Her boss is played by Josh Charles, who has been great in so many shows, such as "Sports Night", "Six Degrees" and "In Treatment".  He knows her from law school, and it looks like he may be a future romantic entanglement. Christine Baranski plays another lawyer at the firm who mentors her.

This is a very good show, so I hope it does well. We definitely need a good legal show on the schedule, and these actors deserve your time.
