"Notes From the Underbelly"
Review by Danielle 4/19/07
"Notes From the Underbelly" is a new comedy on ABC. The plot centers
around a young couple in their 30s who, after some prodding by the husband,
decide to have a baby. Their circle of friends and supporting characters
include a couple who are close to giving birth to a baby of their own, and both
the husband and wife of the original couple have a same sex friend who is
single. Lauren (Jennifer Westfeldt) and Andrew (Peter Cambor) get pregnant
right away and everyone seems to have advice for or against becoming parents.
Julie (Melanie Deanne Moore) and Eric (Sunkrish Bala) are over the top parents
to be who practice getting up at 3AM for nighttime feedings. Michael
Weaver is great as Danny, the best friend of Andrew that the couple describes as
their 'first child.ī Rachael Harris I found hilarious as Laurenīs sarcastic best
friend Cooper. The show had intellectual humor without being too brainy.
I loved the fast back and forth banter and the comedy without needing to resort
slapstick. One of my favorite moments was how every character dropped what
they were doing including lovemaking because fellow ABC show, `Lostī was on TV.
This show has the makings of a smart witty show as long as the impending babies
donīt steal the limelight too soon.
