Kelly Overton

Interview with Kelly Overton of "Van Helsing" on Syfy 10/4/16

I really love the show, and it was nice of Kelly to answer my questions via email!  As much as I love chatting with TV stars on the phone (which is what I usually do), it's very helpful when I don't have to type up the whole phone call. It saves me a lot of time and trouble.

1. How did you get involved in the show? What was the casting process like?

Kelly: It was pretty painless actually.  I read once for Neil Labute and Michael Nankin and that was pretty much it!  A day later I got the call that they were offering me the role.

2. Did you have any qualms about doing another show about vampires?

Kelly: Um...haha it's a bloody genre.

3. Did you have to do any extra training to get in shape, or to learn fighting skills?

Kelly: No, I just did whatever I personally felt was right for the role.  Which was boxing more and strength training.

4.  Had you worked with any of the other actors or crew on the show before?

Kelly: Christopher Heyerdahl  and I were on True Blood at the same time but we actually never had any scenes together.

5. What is the best part about working on the show?

Kelly: The cast

6. What do you find the most challenging?

Kelly: The hours

7.  Where is the series filmed?

Kelly: Vancouver, BC

8.  How long did it take to film the 13 episodes (or are you still filming)?

Kelly: 4 months

9.  Any funny stories about filming that you'd like to share?

Kelly: Neil Labute joked to us once about having a group shower scene....he convinced half of us that it was happening.

10.  What is one question that you've never been asked by press but would like to be asked?

Kelly: The press is pretty on it.

11.  I saw you years ago on "All My Children!"  Do you still keep in touch with anyone from that show?

Kelly: Yes, I keep in touch with Laura Allen, Alana De La Garza, Abigail Spencer and Eden Riegel!!!  Love my AMC ladies!

12. If you hadn't become an actor, what would you do for a living instead?

Kelly: Psychologist

13. What is your favorite thing to do for fun?

Kelly: Listen to music

14.  Any interesting upcoming guest-stars on the show that you'd like to tell us about?

Kelly: The Butcher

15. Did having your own daughter help you identify more with Vanessa about her missing daughter?

Kelly: Yes, absolutely...in fact, that was one of the main reasons I loved the character.

16. Finally, is there anything that you'd like to say to your fans, or fans of the show?

Kelly: THANK YOU! Thank you so much for your support. xo

Suzanne: Thank you! I really enjoyed the first 4 episodes, and I'm looking forward to seeing more...

Kelly: Thanks so much for the interview!  Glad you're enjoying the show!!!  Thanks for watching.
