Interview with Cody Longo of "Hollywood Heights" on
Nick Jr. 8/21/12
As Nickelodeon’s new series “Hollywood
Heights” begins, its main character, Eddie Duran is just returning home
from his first world tour. Yes, Eddie is a rock star. According to Cody
Longo, the actor who plays him, Eddie is also simply a rock. The “rock
of his family”, that is. Longo describes Eddie as being the emotional
glue that holds his family together. “[Eddie] is very family-oriented
and very true to himself.” Longo explains. This is a character Longo
seems to have a lot of affection for and one who he loves playing.
Longo, who has been an actor and
musician since his childhood in Denver Colorado, is probably best known
for playing the character Evan in the latest iteration of the “Bring it
On” franchise, “Bring it On: Fight To The Finish” and the remake of the
dance movie, “Fame”. He also played a young Tommy on the ABC drama
“brothers and Sisters”. All that being said, “Hollywood Heights” is a
radical departure for the actor. Airing five nights a week, the filming
schedule is incredibly demanding. Says Longo, “It’s like bootcamp. There
are thirty-five to sixty-five pages a day of dialogue.” Longo adapted
fairly quickly though, saying, “It’s a lot of work, but you get used to
it.”
No stranger to a strong work ethic,
Longo grew up in family of hard-working artists and creative-types. Not
only were his parents hardworking, they were also supportive of his
creative pursuits. He says, “I come from next to nothing but my parents
are firm believers in finding yourself… I’ve done everything in my power
to do what I want… I want to inspire other people to do whatever makes
them happy.” So much does Longo believe in this that despite his
grueling “Hollywood Heights” schedule, he still found time to pursue
music. His band’s single, “Atmosphere” was released august 22nd
and they will be going on tour in late 2012 or early 2013.
In the practically nil spare time he
has left, Cody still makes time to travel the states. He is especially
fond of New York and Miami. He also enjoys, “hanging out at the beach
and having a good time with my friends.” He says he also loves to play
basketball and is “really big into spoken-word poetry.”
