TONY SHALHOUB STARS IN USA NETWORK'S HIT SERIES “MONK” WHICH CONTINUES ITS SEVENTH SEASON ON FRIDAY, JANUARY 9, 2009 AT 9/8C

Guest stars include Bradley Whitford, Steve Zahn, Gena Rowlands, Bob Costas, Jon Polito, Steve Valentine, Noah Emmerich, Tim Bagley & Jarrad Paul

MONK, the critically acclaimed original series starring Emmy, Golden Globe and SAG award winner Tony Shalhoub, continues its seventh season on USA Network on Friday, January 9, 2009 at 9/8c.  MONK remains one of the highest-rated original scripted series in basic cable history.

Tony Shalhoub (“Big Night,” “Wings,” “Men in Black,” “Cars”) has earned three Emmy Awards, a Golden Globe Award and two SAG Awards for Best Actor in a Comedy Series for his portrayal of Adrian Monk, a brilliant detective who suffers from obsessive-compulsive disorder. Monk's psychological disorder costs him his position as a legendary homicide detective on the San Francisco Police force.  Due to the tragic unsolved murder of his wife, Monk has developed an abnormal fear of germs, heights, crowds and virtually everything else, which provides an unusual challenge to solving crimes … not to mention his day-to-day existence.

Traylor Howard (“Two Guys and a Girl,” “Me, Myself and Irene”), Ted Levine (“Memoirs of a Geisha,” “American Gangster”), Jason Gray-Stanford (“Flags of Our Fathers,” “A Beautiful Mind”), Hector Elizondo (“Chicago Hope,” “Pretty Woman”) and Emmy Clarke (“My House in Umbria,” “Fur”) co-star on the hit original series.

The seventh season continues with guest-stars including Bradley Whitford (“The West Wing,” “Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip”), Steve Zahn (“That Thing You Do,” “Happy, Texas”), Gena Rowlands (“Hysterical Blindness,” “The Notebook”), Bob Costas (Legendary Sportscaster), Jon Polito (“Raising the Bar,” “Ghost Whisperer”), Steve Valentine (“Crossing Jordan,” “Estate of Panic”), and Noah Emmerich (“Law & Order: Special Victims Unit,” “The Truman Show”).  Also returning as guest-stars in their recurring roles are Tim Bagley (“According to Jim,” “The King of Queens”) as Harold Krenshaw and Jarrad Paul (“UC: Undercover,” “The Shaggy Dog”) as Kevin Dorfman.

As season seven continues, we meet Monk's delinquent half-brother, Jack Jr. (Zahn) who escapes from prison and breaks into Monk's apartment where he manipulates Monk into helping him find the person he claims framed him for murder; Monk has scored tickets to the biggest football game of the year, but he and Captain Stottlemeyer can't go inside until they figure out who tried to blow up a fan in the parking lot; when Natalie unwittingly helps a thief steal the bicycle of a biotech CEO (Whitford), she ropes Monk into solving a crime straight out of "Encyclopedia Brown" -- until Monk learns the hard way how dangerous this thief really is; when the parking garage where Monk's wife was killed is set for demolition, Monk intervenes but soon finds himself investigating the disappearance of a city official key to preserving the site; while investigating a murder at a museum of oddities, Monk befriends a warm older woman (Rowlands), but he has trouble believing the friendship comes without a catch; Monk matches wits with a magician (Valentine) who has the ability to make evidence disappear; and when a childhood bully (Emmerich) who terrorized Monk hires the detective to trail his wife, whom he suspects of infidelity, Monk relishes the opportunity to prove him right -- and things get even sweeter when the bully is accused of murder.

MONK is executive produced by David Hoberman (“Raising Helen,” “Bringing Down the House,” “The Negotiator”), Andy Breckman (“Saturday Night Live,” “The Late Show with David Letterman,” “Rat Race”), Tony Shalhoub, Randy Zisk (“House,” “Without a Trace”) and Tom Scharpling ("The Best Show on WFMU").  MONK is from Universal Cable Productions in association with Mandeville Films and ABC Studios.

As all new episodes of season seven of MONK return, monk.usanetwork.com continues to be the home base for fans of the obsessive, compulsive detective.  Anxious fans can get organized with the  "MONK Countdown Calendar" as they countdown the days to the premiere with new content everyday.
