Avery: What are you thinking?
Nick: Really? That's like the worst thing you can ask a guy.
Avery: (Laughs) Oh, my God, you're right. I'm sorry. I should just keep my big mouth shut.
Nick: No, no, no. Everything's cool. It's just if you ask a dude that, you're probably gonna be disappointed, 'cause the answer's either gonna be sports or sex or, you know, if he needs an oil change.
Nick: Or sex.
Avery: Yes, whereas--
Nick: Really profound things like that.
Avery: Yes, whereas a woman would, uh... never mind. I'm just gonna stick my foot in my mouth again.
Nick: Avery, you can ask me whatever you want. I may not know the answer, but I promise you, nothing's gonna scare me off.
Avery: How come you're so sweet?
(Cell phone rings)
Nick: Yeah, I know. (Sighs) Nick Newman.
Devon: Thank you.
Paul: So I, um... I told Katherine that I thought it was a mistake not to tell you and tucker what I had discovered. In fact, I, uh, I guess you could say I-I threatened to tell you myself if she wouldn't do it.
Devon: Well, I thought that private investigators have to keep information confidential.
Paul: We do. I could have lost my license. But that was a chance I was willing to take. That's how strongly I felt it was the right thing to do. And fortunately, the secret came out, and I didn't have to.
Devon: Well, it's nice to hear that you feel that way. But I'm sure Katherine w Avery disappointed because she lost a weapon she could use against tucker.
Paul: That's pretty harsh, Devon. Honestly, Katherine diel that er would be a positive force in your life. So as misguided as it was, she was really trying to protect you.
Devon: "Misguided" is-- is the right word because to me... (sighs) she's really no better than he is.
Paul: For what it's worth, she was really excited about finding you. And she want to get to know you a lot better before the-- the "grandson" label was put on you.
Devon: Yeah. Then no one else gets a say. I mean, I guess that's how billionaires like to run things, right?
Paul: People make mistakes, Devon.
Paul: And sometimes forgiving and moving on is the best way to go.
Devon: Paul, when I was being raised in, uh, foster homes, I used to pray every single night that my dad would come and rescue me. I had a whole story made up in my head about how he went off to get a good job and find a decent place for my mom and me, and one day, he'd come back for us. I have to tell you that now that I know who my biological father is, I'm really glad that that never happened, 'cause I couldn't ask for a better dad than Neil. I have an incredible family, and I don't need tucker or Katherine, and I really don't see any reason why I ever would.
