“Who Dunnit?” Storyline – Great Work Thus Far
November 3,
2006
After watching the character of Carmen Mesta change from the
friendly, innocent, workaholic into the conniving, sneaky, quiet,
little bug; Viewers of the Young and the Restless were treated to a
shocker this week as she was mysteriously murdered and then left to
rot in the alley behind Neil’s new jazz club, Indigo. A clever story
on the writer’s part to begin with; making it into a “Who Dunnit” is
even better.
In doing so, the writers have opened up a huge storyline
involving almost everyone. So far the prime suspects have been
Drucilla and Neil, but now Devon is in the mix, as well as Brad. Not
to mention everyone who knew Carmen basically had motive to get rid
of her before she died. Victoria was upset at having to fire Dru to
avoid a lawsuit; Jack was scared that his secret about Jabot was
about to be let out by Carmen; Sharon wasn’t pleased with Carmen
trying to destroy Neil and Dru’s marriage since Phyllis did the same
thing to her and Nicholas’ marriage; and finally there’s the
possibility of someone from her past being angry at her since her
past isn’t exactly a delightful picture to remember.
So who is it? To be quite honest, for the first time in a while I
truly have no idea. I hope it doesn’t involve any main characters
who’ve been on the show for any length of time as I’d hate to lose
yet another vet. I’m thinking it’s more probable that Professor
Korbel and/or Jana were involved in the murder. I think that would
be a more surprising route for the writers to explore, rather then
having it end up being someone from her past that we were never
introduced to.
My only other gripe would be if the writers decide to drag this
storyline out too long. I know Lynn Marie Latham likes a faster
pace, and I hope this storyline is no different, as it will quickly
become boring if we’re left pondering for months about who the
killer is. So far though, I’ve got nothing to complain about and I
hope this storyline ends with as much excitement as it started with.
On another note, rumours have swirled of either Lauren or Phyllis
suffering from Post Partum Depression. So far, it seems to be
leaning toward Lauren, however I really hope that this is just a
plot device to throw us off from thinking it will be Phyllis. Nick
and Phyllis have had this perfect life since officially getting
together and I think they could use some real drama to test their
relationship. Thus far it’s been all fun and games. (Aside from
ending their relationships with their significant others)
