A Big Thumbs Up – Nick and Sharon Reunite
June 19, 2006
After a year of turmoil, super-couple Nick and
Sharon finally reunited last week on The Young and the Restless.
However the question remains how long it will last. There’s still
Phyllis’ paternity and Sharon’s one-night-stand with Brad under wraps.
I really hope the baby turns out to be Jack’s and the one-night-stand
is just “forgotten” by the writers.
I’m well aware that there are a ton of people
that think it’s time for Nick and Sharon to separate. I constantly
hear people saying, “What kind of marriage is this?” “How many times
are they going to cheat on each other?” However, I firmly believe there
are a lot of people who still want to see Nick and Sharon together,
and I really think it would benefit the show if they kept them from
divorcing.
They have been married ten whole years! That is
unprecedented in the soap world. In fact, that is the longest marriage
ever in the history of Y&R! That’s right, not even Victor and Nikki
were married ten years straight. So why not let the marriage continue,
lets continue to put Y&R above the rest by being unique and showing
that some marriages can actually work ‘til death do them part’.
You might argue that keeping a marriage together
which has been full of affairs is fake, unrealistic and stupid.
Divorce is the only realistic way to go. How many times are we going
to watch the repeated storyline of Nick and Sharon surviving another
problem? Well, I think if there’s been another repeated storyline
that’s been way overused on soaps, its called divorce! How many times
are we going to watch people get married and get divorced? Lets let
Y&R be unique, and show that it is possible to keep a couple together
and keep it interesting.
What I think is important to remember, is that
this is a drama show, so there has to be drama! Soap marriages can’t
be based on being faithful and good to one another, its all about the
on screen attraction and chemistry. I won’t deny that Nick had
chemistry with Phyllis, but how long do you really see that lasting? I
think the main chemistry from the two of them was the no strings
attached sex. Once they get into a relationship, I see them getting
very boring to watch, very fast, whereas Nick and Sharon will always
have that marriage chemistry.
In the end, even if Nick and Sharon were to
divorce, you know it’s only a matter of time before they got back
together. So Y&R, be unique, keep a marriage together, if you can do
it for ten years, you can do it for ten more.
