I think I'll call this week the Week When The Promises
Died. Yeah, that sounds about right. I mean, we've been
hearing for a couple of months now that all these exciting things were
going to happen, and yet, once again, the reality fizzles in comparison to
We were told Vendetta would be exciting, that lots of
secrets would be revealed, that it would bring the reunion of Ethan and
Theresa, the end of Alistair, the reuniting of Sheridan and Marty - all
that, and yet so far, not much has really happened. Well, ok, a lot
has happened, but basically it's been more of the same old stuff in a new
Now, I guess we could look at it this way: next week
could be the best in years for Passions fans, because it's the last week
of June so all the promises should come to pass, making it a really,
really amazing time. But, if the secrets that have come out so far
are any indication, it's more likely to be just another in a long line of
How many of us didn't know from pretty much the start that
Alistair was behind the God and Whitney story? Or the stolen
paintings escapade? Or even the Lena/Noah/Maya mess? It was so
painfully obvious to any of us who've been around any length of time that
the only mystery was just how long would it be before they revealed it.
I mean, come on, the Three Stoogettes find Alistair's hidden secrets
stash, plus a box full of money to help them get to Rome?
"God" appears to Whitney in the convent? A mystery woman
appears, wanting answers to something that happened years ago, and one of
the conditions for leaving Noah alive is that he has to pretend he's back
with an old girlfriend?
What really bugs me is the fact that JER and his merry
band of ?writers? still seem to think we are all dumber than a box of
rocks, and continue to show just how little they value and respect us.
They keep force-feeding us stories that are stupid, banal, and
never-ending, and totally ignore what we have been screaming for since the
show began, so if that doesn't show a total lack of respect for us, what
does? But then, we just keep watching anyway, don't we? Does
that mean we deserve what we get?
I don't think so. I think we all realize the promise
of this show, the possibilities of what it could be if someone - anyone -
would make an effort to make it so. We all continue to watch because
we simply can't believe The Powers That Be wouldn't want to make the show
as good as possible, since it is in their own best interests to do so.
However, they simply don't seem to be able to understand that. They
don't seem to know what they have in their hands, or what to do with it.
I've waited for weeks for Theresa to come up with the
proof she needs to convince Ethan she's been telling the truth all along.
Well, actually it's been years, but this was supposed to be "the
time". We were promised it would happen, it was hinted at each
week, and in every way, yet so far we've got nothing. Oh, sure, she
found the guy, and she found the evidence, but getting it from him to
Ethan seems to be an insurmountable problem. It just never happens.
I am so tired of watching Gwen and Rebecca smirking about
having dashed Theresa's hopes over and over again that I'm about to
scream. And having to watch Gwen slobbering all over Ethan in bed
every chance she gets makes my stomach turn. Honestly, there is
something so gross about those two in bed that it's truly hard to watch,
so I usually don't. If I have the show taped, I fast forward through
it, and if it's live, I leave the room. That's how gross I find
those scenes. The only thing worse is Alistair with anyone, and
Spike with Jessica.
Speaking of which, can you believe Jessica is so stupid
that she actually married Spike? Did she really think that would
keep her out of jail, or disarm Alistair's supposed evidence of her
killing all those johns? Honestly, the stupidity of that girl never
ceases to amaze me. Why, oh why wasn't she caught in one of those
ever-present catacomb cave-ins so we could be put out of our misery where
she's concerned? No such luck.
The rest of the Vendetta stories are barely standable (is
that a word?). Boring, insipid, mind-numbing....just a few of the
descriptions that come to mind. I know I sound very picky here, but
I just haven't seen the point in all this yet, and it's almost over.
Like I said, next week had better be the best week in Passions history, or
else this will be just another in a long line of broken promises.
Yes, it's that bad.
Now, back in Harmony we had another story with promise.
Kay can't make up her mind whether she wants Fox or Miguel, Miguel has his
mermaid who can't wait to get him into bed, and Endora just keeps being
the cutest part of the whole show, but even that can't make it better.
Oh, if they'd just follow up on all the things that are going on, move
them along, it could be a really fun and funny story. It has it's
moments now, but they are few and far between at this point, and there's
just so much of the repeatitis that's infected this show since the
beginning that you can't really enjoy the fun parts when they're there.
Have you ever known a man that lagged so badly at bedding
a willing - more than willing! - woman? How many weeks has Miguel
been kissing and fondling Siren every chance he gets, yet he never quite
gets to the goal line. And it's not for lack of trying on her part,
mind you. She is ready, willing, and able to finish the deed, the
sooner the better, but all he seems to be able to do is kiss her
passionately for days, nothing else. I wonder if they have Viagra in
Harmony? He seems to be in need of a few doses.
Now we have Kay getting zapped by a faulty washing
machine, waking up to pull Miguel into a really passionate kiss, and
ending up with Fox, Siren, and Tabitha walking in on that confusing scene.
Then she goes into seizures and wakes up wondering why anyone is shocked
that she's kissing Miguel like there's no tomorrow. Stupid premise.
Ok, I see the storyline value in it, but come on. Tabby is a witch,
so why would she have a washer that shorts out all the time? Why
hasn't she had Endora zap up a new one before this? It doesn't make
sense at all.
I don't know, maybe I am just being too picky, too
grouchy, or whatever about all this, but it's really bugging me.
It's not like it hasn't happened before, of course, but this was supposed
to be the month of secrets revealed, issues sorted out and taken care of,
and loving reunions, etc., and it's really disappointing to see it's not
happening. We've had no real payoff in all this, unless you count
the fact Beth and Marty didn't really die in the taxi fire. Now,
that was a good thing, and we did get to find out about it quickly, so I
really should give them a pat on the back for that one.
The problem is, it's one time out of......I don't know,
hundreds?......that has had a quick resolution. We need more of
this, but it seems we're not getting, at least not so far. My dream
is that the trip to Rome will shake something loose in Harmony and time
will move along at a good clip from now on. I want secrets to be
revealed in a timely manner, not drug out for months and years on end.
I think that will improve the show immensely, and make it a lot easier and
more fun to watch, and that can only be good for the show, good for the
network, and - most especially - good for us, the fans.
