Shirley's Opinion #81
9/20 - 9/24/04
Well, folks, Martin and Katherine are finally back in
Harmony. I don't know about you, but I still can't get behind these
two. True, I do hope they will be able to get rid of Alistair, even
temporarily, but that doesn't mean I like them any better than I did
before. I still can't believe the excuses they come up with for
deserting their families without a word all those years ago.
Katherine needed to get away, but she shouldn't have left the kids behind.
Even knowing Alistair is as rich and powerful as he is, with the ability
to even bug the Mexican jungle as well as every room in every house in
Harmony along with all the streets, etc. doesn't make it easier for me to
understand her leaving without her kids. As for Martin, there simply
is no excuse good enough. All they had to do was shoot the old coot and
bury him six feet under. Martin could have done it, leaving
Katherine free to be with her kids and to take care of Martin's family
while he was away in prison. The kids would have known where their
father was and why and surely some really good attorney could get him out
based on self-defense. I mean, Katherine would have had the marks he
left on her so it wouldn't be a big step to take to believe Martin walked
in on Alistair beating her, saying he was going to kill her, and he did
the only thing he could do by using the gun he kept on him while at work
to ward off snakes or wild critters to shoot the man. He didn't mean
to kill him, of course, he just meant to stop him, but..... I mean,
it would work, right? And then we could admire them as the decent
people they claim to be. Oh, well.
So....just how stupid is Paloma, anyway? She knows
Alistair Crane tried to kill her and the others, she knows she's on his
estate, so when this well-dressed man walks up and invites her into the
house to look around, just who did she think he was? And then he
starts telling her word for word the line his henchman used to get her
away from Luis in Mexico and she doesn't connect the two? She did
comment on the fact, so why didn't she realize she was talking to the very
man who had tried to kill them all? And why on earth did she fall
for the same story again? Poor little thing, she needs a full time
nurse, I guess. Now, if she were 6 or 7 years old I could see her
not being able to reason it all out, but this is a young lady who is old
enough to get into a dance club on her own so she should have the ability
to use common sense. I'm telling you, there is something in the air
or water in Harmony that simply makes people instantly stupid.
So, Whitney couldn't go through with the abortion this
week. I guess that's a good thing, but now what's she going to do?
It's looking like she might just go hop in bed with Fox as soon as
possible and blame the whole thing on him. She certainly got some
kind of idea when she thought about the fact that he loves her. Now,
I'm not sure I like that idea but it would get her out of more
finger-pointing from the public. It also puts her in the same
category as the mother she is hating so much now. Well, come to
think of it, it might be a really good story at that. Here she is
hating her own mother for lying, yet she is more than willing to do the
same thing when it suits her. Now we just need to have Simone find
out who the baby's father really is and put her sister through the same
torture Aunt Liz did to their mother. Isn't Karma a wonderful thing?
Let's just hope it doesn't take almost 30 years for that truth to come
I can see the move to reunite Theresa and Ethan is in
motion now, too. He is remembering that he was with Theresa after
the Ball, and Gwen has already shown them he knows her even when
blindfolded and fooled by her unique perfume, so he can't hide from the
fact that he enjoyed Theresa much more than he does Gwen. Now, I
don't know if that will come out any time soon so Gwen finds out about it
but I do believe it won't be too long before Ethan is knocking at
Theresa's door for an encore. I still don't understand why he has
convinced himself he loves Gwen so much when he has to know how he really
feels, but at least it seems it will be out before long in one way or
another. I am anxiously awaiting the return of the "real"
Theresa, I'll tell you that. I am really not liking the wicked
Theresa we have now at all. The character just isn't the same and it
isn't much fun watching her these days in my opinion. Justin should
be back within a couple of weeks and then a couple more weeks until Lindsay
gets back, and I just can't wait. I've said before that I have
nothing against the fill-in actors, but they have simply changed the
characters too much and it just doesn't work. Ok, that's my two
cents on the matter.
Beth and Edna were back this week and I have to say I have
missed them. I can't wait to see what's up for Beth. I am
hoping against hope that Sheridan will get her baby back soon, though.
I'm thinking it would be great if Katherine got to see and hold the baby
and remark on how much he looks like Sheridan at that age. Just a
simple, throw-away line, but it could start the motor running in Sheridan
and Luis' minds and that would be super. Can't be too soon for me.
I really have reservations about that baby being raised by that evil
witch, you know?
So, did anyone happen to see whether the (YUCK!!!) love
scene between Liz and TC was real or a dream? I swear there was
nothing showing her waking up from what I had hoped was a dream and
nothing said about it having actually happened, either, except that she's
still there. So did they or didn't they? And why aren't the
girls upset that Liz is sleeping with their Dad if it was real? Are
they really that shallow that they would figure that since their mother
didn't tell him about her past that gives him the right jump right from
her bed to Liz's within the space of a few hours? I hope not.
You know, for being people who are supposed to be so into church and
following God's laws these guys seem to pick and choose the laws they want
to follow, don't they? Not just the Russells, of course, but the
whole lot of them. And Father Lonigan...where was the lecture about
having sexual relations with Chad without benefit of marriage when he was
lecturing Whitney about the evils of abortion? What, is it ok now
for unmarrieds to live in sin? Now, I know in society it is now
normal to do that, but I thought the church frowned on it preached
abstinence until marriage? He should have laid into her about that,
too. Maybe I'm just behind the times, but I really can't believe how
blasť he is about premarital sex on that show.
Ok, that's the end of my complaining for this week.
I'm sure I'll have plenty more next week, though, so stay tuned.
