Shirley's Opinion #76
8/9 – 8/13/04
Ok, Ladies and Gentlemen, let's talk about the "Big
Week" on Passions. Did it live up to the hype? Were you thrilled with
the way it played out? Was the huge cliffhanger enough to bring you back
after two weeks of the Olympics? Well, here's my take on it.
I think it was a so-so week. Some of it I loved, some was
ok, and some just made me go "HUH?", as usual. So let's look at
it and see how it came out.
First, there was TC, Whitney, and Simone's continuing
reaction to Eve's secret past. Now, I know, they had just been slapped
with some news they never expected to hear and had a hard time dealing
with it, and I can even understand being as angry as they were, but to
keep it going as long as they have is just a little too much, at least for
me. And for TC to have allowed the girls to say and do the things they did
to their mother was way beyond the pale. No child has the right to slap a
parent, unless they are defending themselves, and for TC to not only allow
it but condone it was just wrong. I know I said that before, but it bears
repeating. Now, another thing I'm wondering about here is TC's reaction to
Liz. Eve told him what Liz was up to, even though he didn't want to
believe her, so why didn't he recognize she was right once the Lizard
started seducing him and berating him any time he talked about reconciling
with Eve? How dense is this man, anyway? Oh, sure. He got some
"comforting" from her, but apparently that wasn't worth the
trouble, so why is he still falling for her plots and defending her? Can't
he see it when it's spelled out for him? I did love having Sam bring
Father Lonigan to visit, setting TC straight on the fact that what Eve did
was done before she ever knew him, and since they have been married, she
HAS been the model woman he always bragged about. He has a right to be
upset that she didn't tell him, but to hold her responsible for what she
did before they ever met is just wrong. Certainly he had his fair share of
women before he met her, right? What's the difference? Anyway, the good
Father got TC to see the error of his ways and contact Eve to meet with
him and talk it out. However, Liz struck again. Man, I just don't see how
that man can not see what she's doing! Now, Liz was desperate because TC
had told her she has to leave and set about trying to patch things up with
Eve, so I understand why she would pull out the big gun and tell TC Eve
was driving the car that wrecked into him, but again, how can he just not
see why she's telling him now? Well, maybe he will figure it out after he
has these next two weeks to rest and think about it. This is definitely
the "HUH?" category.
Well, at least we now know for sure who Eve and Julian's
son is. Of course, they have told us since the show started, but people
didn't want to believe it. But now that Whitney is pregnant, it was time
to let the secret out, just as Tabitha told us five or six years ago. And
to have Alistair tell Julian that it would be a good subject for the Jerry
Winger show after having that be a part of one of the dreams from one of
the fogs Tabitha created - well, I just had to chuckle. I know, it's a
serious subject, but it just seemed like such a JER thing to do , you
know? Anyway, now we have the truth about Chad out in the open, his
half-sister Whitney pregnant with his child, and Chad's half-brother Fox
waiting in the wings to take up the slack once the secret is made public,
and it looks like it will be a good story once we get back to it. I wonder
if Whitney will fall for Fox? Oh, yeah, right! Like she's going to pass on
a hunk like that, especially with all that money at his disposal! LOL!!
Anyway, this seems like one of the better stories, and one that will bring
me back after the break. Oh, and I wonder what Simone is going to do about
it all? Please don't tell me she starts falling for Fox too, and then gets
angry all over again once she finds out he's really in love with Whitney.
I don't think I can stand all that drama again.
Well, from the sublime to the ridiculous. Luis dies again,
apparently. Good Lord, can't they leave those two alone? How many times
have they each died over the years? I haven't bothered to count, but it
seems to me that Sheridan has died at least five times, while Luis has
died three or four times. Now, I don't know about the rest of you, but
that's just too much for me to take. Once or twice, ok. But over and over
again? I don't think so. At this point I am just wanting the writers to
either kill them both off, once and for all, or leave them alone. Let them
get married, find their son, and live happily ever after, or at least as
happily as soap characters can live. They've been through enough already,
and it's just getting tiresome watching first one and then the other
mourning for their dead mate every time I turn around. Between that and
Martin and Katherine's eternal "We're terrible for leaving our
families, they will hate us forever. No, we're the good guys, doing what
we had to do to protect them all, we're really heroes and they'll all
thank us", I feel like I'm on a runaway merry-go-round. Now, that may
sound like an oxymoron to some, but to those of you who have been watching
this show since the beginning, you all know exactly what I mean, don't
you? Yeah, I thought so. Tiresome, to say the least. Continually running
in circles, going nowhere. I tell you what, I'm not going to miss all that
while the Olympics are on, that's for sure, and I certainly wouldn't hurry
back to see what happens this time. We all know Luis will still be alive.
Well, Rebecca finally came home, just in time to find
Theresa having major pains in Little Ethan's room. I have missed her,
actually, and was glad to see her back. Yes, she's evil, but she's also
good for a few laughs, too. I loved the look on her face once she figured
out that she had no more hold over Julian and was about to be out on her
rear end before long. LOL!! I loved it. And then Gwen stood up to her
about keeping Theresa there. Now, that was a good day. Speaking of
Theresa, turns out she just had gas pains, or else it is the two amniotic
sacks from her TWINS causing the pain she felt. Yes, I said TWINS!! Now,
what do you think will come of this? Either there never was a miscarriage,
or there was but there were two eggs that took, and then Ethan's sperm hit
one of Theresa's own eggs, or he hit two eggs and they're both Theresa's.
Either way, it sounds like this story just got even better, doesn't it?
Personally, I'm hoping that one will be Gwen's and the other Theresa's.
Now, I've never been a real big fan of Gwen, but I thought it was just too
cruel to have her lose a second child and end up believing another woman's
child is hers, only to lose it, too. My wish is that one will be Gwen's
and she will end up with a child after all. Now, I don't know what that
might mean for Theresa and Ethan getting back together, but be that as it
may, that's what I would like to happen. I am interested in finding out
where this story goes, too.
So, as it stands right now, I guess the cliffhangers did
make me want to get back to the show in two weeks. I wasn't sure there
would be anything that would hold my attention enough to make me antsy for
the two weeks to get over fast, but between the Chad reveal, the twins,
and whether TC will forgive Eve for ending his career or not, I guess
there is. So I'll be back in front of my TV on the 30th, waiting to see
what is going to happen, and hopefully it will be worth the wait.
