Shirley's Opinion #68
6/7 - 6/11/04
This week is a hard one to write about. Between the
inconsistent storylines and the breaks for funeral coverage, I didn't
really get much out of it. But, never at a loss for words, I will
press on, despite the roadblocks. The one thing I can say at this
point is, I wasn't impressed by much of what I did see this week.
Didn't we get the same dialog, almost word for word, from
Charity a few months back when she decided she couldn't be with Miguel
because of what Death had told her? I don't know for sure, but it
certainly sounded the same. No wonder Miguel never believes her when
she says it. I mean, even when she's not with him, she won't stay
away from him. What's a poor guy to do? Just keep chasing her,
I guess. It sure seems to work for him. I wish they would
either get together and stay that way, or split up and go their separate
ways, because I am awful tired of the two of them. Sorry all you
Charguel fans, but they have never risen above the level of watching mild
curdle on my interest list. I know they are both leaving soon, and
all I can say is, good-bye, good luck, and don't hurry back.
Antonio finally found Shuis, after Sher ran out waving a
burning log at him. Man, that guy is really a few bricks shy of a
full load, isn't he? Like that time when he was hot on their trail,
seeing them running the other way, yet when he got to where their
footprints were, the wave came in and washed them away. You would think he
could figure out which way to go since he had seen them running away, yet
his famous words were "Darn! The wave washed away their footprints.
Now I don't know which way they went." LOL!! Ok, Tony, we
understand. Just stomp around some more, yell some more at poor
Hank, and threaten to kill Luis one more time. That'll make it all better.
Anyway, Sheridan decided to press charges against Luis for kidnapping
after another Antonio gem: "So what's it going to be? Are you
going to agree to press charges, or am I going to kill him?"
Duh! Some choice, right? I'm still wondering why she didn't
take that log she was waving, break it over his thick head and tell him to
grow up. I was also left wondering about all the hanky panky going
on, yet she still doesn't remember she loves him. Yeah, I pull my
bikini off and press my bare self up against a hunk I used to love,
kissing him like there's no tomorrow, but that doesn't mean I love him.
Okay. Whatever. Another case of a woman on this show saying
one thing but screaming another with her actions.
Ivy and Eve are still at a standoff, but their fear of Liz
is kind of binding them together, somewhat. I don't think I could
really get behind them being friends, but it was kind of different seeing
them actually talking this week. I guess since Grace is gone, Eve
does need someone to talk to, but....Ivy? Oh, well. It's
different. And watching Ivy talking to Liz was fascinating. I
remember seeing two rattlesnakes dancing once, on a nature program, and it
was pretty much the same thing. Waving around, twisting back and
forth, finally wrapping themselves around each other and falling to the
ground...I think it was a mating ritual, actually, but it was fascinating,
none the less. The same with Ivy and Liz. Each of them moving
around, first talking nicely, circling each other, then coming together in
a choking dance, each trying to stick her fangs in the other. I
think Liz came out the winner in the match, personally. She really
holds the upper hand over both Ivy and Eve.
Paloma was a bright spot in the week. She really is
a talented actress. She can portray almost every emotion and make it
feel real. They are lucky they got her, and I hope she sticks around
for a while. The two playing Martin and Katherine are doing a good
job, too, but the characters are so horrible that I simply can't like
them. Don't get me wrong, if they were evil for the sake of being
evil, I would enjoy their performances a lot. Kind of like Tabby, or
Hecuba. But they are trying so hard to make us think what they did
was noble and admirable, and it simply wasn't. For a man to leave
his wife with five young children to run off with his mistress is just
wrong. I don't care what Alistair was doing to her, he should never
have taken off with her. Heck, he should never have been in a
relationship with her, for that matter. And for her to leave her
young daughter alone with the monster she hated so much when she knew what
he was like is unforgivable. I will never learn to like these two,
no matter how hard they try to convince us they are really decent people.
Nothing could be further from the truth. They are as bad as
Alistair, or Ivy, or Rebecca. Worse, actually, because they are
supposed to be good people. I simply hate any scene they are in, and
I am hoping the gunman Alistair sent does his job well. I am tired
of these two already.
Poor Kay. Here she is, laying in the hospital almost
dying, and it wasn't even her fault this time. It wasn't her idea to
kill Charity, and she did everything she could to keep Tabitha from
killing her, but to no avail. Tabby changed her into a dog,
after coating her teeth with some kind of poison, and sent her out to
kill the girl with one little bite. Of course it didn't work
that way, and now Kay is lying at death's door. Well, Dr. Eve says
she's going to be fine now, but she's said that before. At this
point I don't want Kay with Miguel any more than I want Charity with him,
but I don't want Kay dead, either. Well, we'll have to wait and see
Ok, that's all I can remember for now. As I said, I
missed parts of the shows this week due to coverage of the funeral and
all, so if I missed anything, sorry. And if anything I've mentioned
was cleared up at some point, I'm sorry about not catching it.
Hopefully next week will be better and we will get to see all five
episodes in their entirety. And with any luck, there will be some
kind of resolution to the Shuis and Charguel stories, or at least some big
leap toward the resolution. I'll be back next week to let you know
what I think about what does happen, no matter what goes on.
