Shirley's Opinion #66
5/31 - 6/4/04
Here's a question for you: Is anyone else as tired
of the Pirates of the Caribbean scenes as I am? Yes, Luis is hot
with that beard, but even that wears thin after a while. And by the
way, how did he change hats in midstream? First he had a tricorner
hat in a maroon color, or burgundy - whatever it's called - and then the
next scene he had a gray hat with a huge feather. Nothing major, but
a bit distracting. Anyway, the accents are kind of here one minute, gone
the next, and I've worked with middle school kids who could write better
dialog. "Woe upon that pirate if he's caused you any harm,
Patience!"? And this coming from Andrew/Antonio, who's standing
right outside the cave they are in, yet can only holler to them instead of
going on in? What, did they have a secret force field across the
door? I'm sorry, but this whole thing is boring. Ok, they want
to remind us that these three have been connected through the centuries.
We've got that already. I mean, if we didn't realize that from the
Cleopatra and Titanic scenes, we are beyond being able to get it anyway,
so why keep boring us with all these stories? Maybe I'm just being
an old grouch, I don't know, but I can't wait for this story to be over.
Another complaint: I've been waiting for Faith to
show up since she died in that fire. I thought she would come
wandering into town with amnesia, looking for someone but not remembering
who or something. So, she finally comes back as a ghost, and stands
there whining all over the place. Come on, lady, you're a ghost!
You can go anywhere, do anything, so stop whining and do something, for
goodness sake. Finally she manages to alert Miguel to the fact she's
there and give him the message that Charity needed help, but she's still
whining. Man, I see where Charity gets her ability to drive me up
the wall with her whining. It must be in her genes. Anyway,
why on earth didn't Faith go there and stop the dog? Doesn't she
know that animals can see spirits, even if people can't? Even if the
dog is really Kay transformed, she would still have animal instincts and
be able to see her. But no, that would be too easy. And, of
course, Miguel had to be the hero. At least Faith managed to get
ahold of the dog through Tabitha's water bowl. And here's another
question: why on earth didn't Charity and Miguel take off running like
crazy when the dog was stuck like that? I wouldn't have stood there
discussing it or trying to figure it out. I would have been running
like a fool to get somewhere that the dog couldn't get to me, even up a
tree. Which is another thing I wondered about. Since they were
surrounded by trees, why not run and climb up one? Dogs can't climb,
as a rule, so why not? Oh, I know. Too sensible. Sheesh!
And again, no heroism for Miguel. And no deathly injury for Kay.
Now, I wonder how they are going to explain how Kay managed to get impaled
by the rod Miguel threw at the dog? I'm sure they'll come up with
something everyone will buy, but it will be interesting to see what that
Another part of this story that I found kind of fun was
Faith slugging Tabitha, sending her flying across the room. Now, I
like Tabby, don't get me wrong. Witch and all, she's still one of
the bright spots on this show. But seeing Faith smacking her one was
somewhat satisfying. I'm still wondering why Endora didn't come to
Mommy's aid, though. I was hoping to see a little lightening bolt
come and smack Faith in the rear end or something as the little demon
tried to protect her Mom. Too much to hope for, I guess.
Looks like TC and Sam are going to come to blows over Ivy.
Poor Sam is so blinded to what she really is that he will risk being
killed by TC rather than listen to what he's trying to say. I still
wish Eve would just tell all she knows. She has to know the writing
is on the wall for her, that any moment all her secrets will come spilling
out, so why not just get it over with and save all her "friends"
the pain they are going through? I really lose more respect for her
every day, and that's too bad, because I thought she was actually one of
the more moral people in town when the show started. Just goes to
show, you never can tell. It's kind of sad, really.
Poor Paloma! She thought her Mom had finally come
for her, and was totally crushed when she found out it wasn't true.
That young actress really has a lot of talent. I think they had
better use her to the best of her abilities while they have her, because I
doubt it will be too long before the big offers start coming in for her,
and she'd be a fool to pass them up. If you can't tell, I am in awe
of this young lady and her acting ability. She really can make you
feel what she's feeling, and she makes it look easy.
Now for the good part. I absolutely loved all the
scenes with Hank, Antonio, and Luis shirtless. Talk about hunk
heaven! And it was all part of the story, not simply gratuitous pecs.
Now, Sheridan, on the other hand, was a totally different story. I
remember wondering why Grace thought she had to get nude to warm David up
the time his illness popped up. I mean, body heat does come through
your clothes, too, so it's really senseless to take them off. Plus
they help you warm up more and not lose the heat as quickly, so it's
better to be dressed than nude. So imagine my surprise when Sheridan
decided she needed to warm Luis up, and dropped her clothes in order to do
so. But....all she had on was a bikini. Now, just how much
more skin did she expose by doing that? Not much, so what was the
purpose of taking it off? Nothing more than to titillate the
viewers, I would say. Sorry, guys, but some of us actually have
brains and realize that was totally unnecessary for story purposes.
Man, when will they ever learn? That's right, probably never.
Ok, that's about it for this week. I am waiting
anxiously to see what has happened to Kay and what they are going to
figure out as an explanation for it. The rest seems to be more of
the same, and while I am anxious for the stories to come to an end, I
realize it's not going to happen any time soon so I'm not even going to
waste my time wondering about them. I am also anxious to find out
just how much Kay remembers of what she did. I am disappointed in
Tabby for making her do this against her will, though. I hope it
wakes Kay up and makes her realize she doesn't need to be evil after all.
Ok, I know that's not going to happen, but allow me one lost cause, ok?
LOL!! I'll be back next week with some more ramblings, and until
then, have a great start to summer. Here's to warm days, sunshine,
days at the beach or by the pool, and lots and lots of iced tea for
everyone! And don't forget the sunscreen!
