OK, somebody tell me what's up with the writers these
days. The writing seems to have improved somewhat, doesn't it?
Not that it's a bad thing. I mean, after around five years of so-so,
ho-hum plots and Junior High level dialog, it's almost refreshing. I
say almost because there are a few things I'm not so thrilled with.
And I have to tell you, I am becoming a bit concerned about the plot
situation, too. It seems they may have finally started paying
attention to us, the fans, but I fear that is probably just too good to be
In the dialog department, I think the L.A. story is
probably the least well written. Whitney has now become Ethan,
whining about Chad lying to her all this time, and honesty is the most
important thing, and she can never be with someone who would lie to her.
Hey, Whit......remember Simone? You know, your little sister, the
one who developed the major crush on your man? How many times did
Chad tell you to just tell her the truth, let her know they were together
and he felt nothing for her? How long did you (gasp....not you!!)
LIE to her and force Chad to LIE to her too? So what caused the big
turnaround? What, it's ok for you to lie but no one else? Get
a grip, girl!!
And the ever-present TC, with his one big line - "I'm
gonna kill you/him!" I really wish they would take those words
completely out of his vocabulary. I am so tired of hearing it.
And why doesn't Eve tell him to stop saying that? True, she did tell
him to stop making threats, and that's a start, but she needs to let him
know grown men don't go around saying that all the time, and they
certainly don't go around attacking everyone that upsets them.
Now, Julian, on the other hand, seems to have learned how
to become human again. After years of his cold-hearted treatment of
everyone except Rebecca, this is still a great thing. Ben Masters
has turned Julian from a hateful, hated bore to a wonderful, loving, man
you can feel sorry for. That may sound strange, but at least now we
can really like him instead of hating him.
OK, on to the Grace/Sam/David story. Can you spell
H-O? What on earth is up with the sainted Grace, Harmony's resident
angel-in-waiting? She has a family, a husband she loves like crazy
and has been married to for over 20 years, yet some guy she doesn't know
comes and feeds her a line of bull and she's ready to chuck husband, kids,
and the only life she knows to "try to find out what it would be like
with David?" Come on!! I don't care if she does believe
he's her husband, there is no way a decent wife and mother would do
something like that. I mean, she doesn't have any memory of him!
I knew I didn't like her, and I abhor the way she treats her own child,
but I never would have thought she would be so......immoral. But, at
least the story is moving, I guess, which is what we've been wanting.
I just wish Kay would make up her mind and do the right thing.
Speaking of which, why on earth doesn't Edna just spit it
out? She is making me so angry. She keeps moaning about how
much Luis and Sheridan are hurting, but does absolutely nothing to help
them. Sure, she throws hints, and now she's let Sheridan know
her baby is there, but you know what's going to happen, right? I've
read the spoilers, as have the rest of you, and it's just more misery for
Sheridan. Ugh!! So the story is moving, yes, but it's just
really not going anywhere.
Finally, the "Big Twist". I have to tell
you, it was a surprise to find out Charlie was Alistair in drag,
but.....what did that knowledge do to improve things? Now we know
there is no quick end to this painful saga, since there is no Charlie to
spill the beans, and we know Alistair is a low-down creep who will stoop
to any level to get what he wants (as if we didn't know that already), but
the longed-for reunion of Luis, Sheridan, and son is nowhere nearer being
a reality now than it was last year. Or the year before.
Although Antonio does know. But, once again, Pilar is trying to keep
him from really knowing. The previews show Luis looking like he's
ready to tell him the truth, but we know what will happen....Sheridan and
Beth are going to start fighting over the baby, screeching, etc., and just
as Luis is about to say the words we want to hear, they will hear the
commotion and go running, forgetting about the big reveal for another few
months, at least. UGH!!!
So, even though the writing seems more adultish, and the
stories seem to be ready to end, I'm not holding my breath. We've
all been there before, seen and heard that before, and we aren't going to
fall for it that easily this time, right?
