Shirley's Opinion #35

By Shirley

9/15 - 9/19/03

Here I am again, another week, another opinion.  I guess there have been more important things going on this week, at least in some parts of the country, but for those of us who watch Passions, it's hard to set it aside.  I would like to say how sorry I am for all those who were affected by Isabel this week, and I hope the damage can be fixed quickly.  I know nothing will bring back the human losses, but our hearts and prayers are with everyone who was affected by this storm.  I thank God it wasn't as strong as it was expected to be, but it still caused too much damage all along it's path.

Now on to the show.  This week was kind of and "eh" week for me.  Not the worst I've seen, but not the best, either.  I think the scenes with Sheridan and her baby were very sweet, but at the same time, heartbreaking.  The thought that this baby has been ripped from his mother's arms is horrifying, and the thought that he could be raised by Beth is sickening.  She has really gone around the bend this time, actually seeming to believe the baby is hers.  Her fake birthing scene was just unbelievable!!  She truly is a wacko.  Now she plans to kill Charlie to get her out of the way.  It makes me feel sorry for this woman that I have only felt disgust for up til now.  She is really looney, and dangerous, but to think that she has fallen for Beth and really thinks Beth loves her, too, is sad.  Especially since Beth cares nothing for her and never did.  That's just not right.  Oh, and how many of you thought the same thing I did when Antonio started telling Beth he "knew what was happening"?  I knew he wasn't talking about believing Edna but that he understood how "sick" she was now.  Good lord, why do they keep doing that?  Let the guy actually know what's going on sometime, would ya?

Gwen is the latest victim of the Instant Ignorance bug that's been going around Harmony for years.  She is a sharp woman, usually, but lately she's been really clueless.  Oh, she goes on and on about Theresa, asking Ethan for constant reassurance that he is over her, but when the proof is right there on her TV screen, she somehow can't see it?  Man, now that's not right.  It is really painful to see her gloating over the fact she has won Ethan from Theresa while knowing he's all over Theresa at that very moment!  She is just so oblivious to what's right in her face.  Well, she's chosen to accept that the love he felt for Theresa just disappeared as soon as she said the word "pregnant", as if he weren't just getting ready to propose to T two minutes before.  What is she thinking?  Is she thinking at all?

Julian and Eve connected again this week, which is always a good thing, in my view.  Those two really shine when they are together.  TC was otherwise occupied with Miz Liz, in and out of the shower.  Now, that woman is really pushy, isn't she?  How can he not see that?  He keeps talking to her as if she is this delicate flower and he doesn't want to cause her any pain, etc., but he can't quite seem to figure out that she's setting up all these get-togethers.  Wake up, man!!!  He has been fairly strong so far, and I admire him for that, but he really needs to learn how to push her away as soon as she makes her move, not stand there kissing her and letting her see him nude.  I will never understand how these guys can never pull away from a woman who is always much smaller and weaker than they are.  It doesn't make sense.  Or at least turn his head before she can get the old lip lock on him.  I mean, I have never had a problem with getting my lips out of the way of a guy who feels he has a  right to kiss them.  How on earth can a big, strong man not be able to?  Oh, well.  It's Passions.

By the way, when are we going to stop making excuses for the bad writing on this show by saying "It's Passions, what do you expect?"  I mean, maybe if we let the writers know we expect a lot more than we are getting, things might improve.  I don't know that they will, but it could help.  I have written to them at passions@nbc.com, but I never get an answer, so I don't know if they read my e-mails or not.  Maybe if enough of us write to express our dissatisfaction, they will get the message.

Ok, now for my funniest moment of the show this week.  I don't do this all the time, but this was just so funny I want to mention it.  How about the way Precious grabbed the "baby" from the basket in Beth's kitchen the other day?  She just grabbed it and kind of banged it down again.  Beth finally reached over and moved the basket a little and held the baby down, but the damage was done.  It just goes to show you never know what will happen when you work with animals.  Thank goodness it wasn't the real baby!

That's all for this week.  I hope to be back here next week with my impressions of the shows, and I hope you come back to read them!!  Have a great week, and let's hope Passions does, too.
