Guiding Light Opinion for Week of July 7th
This week of Guiding Light gave us another viable murder suspect.
Iím beginning to think that the worst thing Harley did was quit the police
force. Sheís not doing anything and she is still thinking better than the
whole Springfield Police Department, which is why Iím wondering why GL
wrote her out of the police force in the first place. Iím happy that she
has concluded that Mitch Hendon is probably the killer, because Ben being
the killer just doesnít do it for me. Itís just not something Ben Reade
But did Ben self-inflict the stab wound on his abdominal? It is unlikely,
but I wouldnít be surprised if GL decided to pull a twist and reveal that
Ben would stab and drown himself to take suspicion off of him.
The marriage between Michelle and Danny was corny. I thought the whole
thing looked incredibly trashy. Tying the knot surrounded by hot dogs and
chips and fourth of July balloons just made the whole thing look tacky. It
wasnít helped by the fact that it was obvious that Michelle was pregnant.
GLís half-hearted attempts at covering up her pregnancy is not working. I
just wish that the GL writers would end Manny. Itís just not working
On the plus side, Daniel Bedingfield singing his top hit ďIf Youíre Not
the OneĒ was great. I didnít know that he had such a funny accent, and I
loved hearing the excellent song.
I think it was kind of odd that Marina was suddenly feeling sorry for Ben.
I thought she hated him and was through with him, and suddenly she is
backing Ben up and snapping at Shayne for insulting him. I think Marina
and Shayne are the safe couple, but Marina and Ben have chemistry. I would
love to see Marina and Shayne back together, but it was just strange the
way Marina was unexpectedly feeling sorry for Ben.
The scenes in which Phillip was remembering his love for Olivia made me
smile. I loved the fact that Phillip hadnít forgotten the passion he had
with her, because lately passion is the last thing that happens when the
two characters are together. I am hoping that after Olivia has the baby,
she and Phillip can ignite the chemistry that is fighting to get out.
On a related note, Olivia is suddenly going blonde. The flashbacks showed
me her darker hair color, and I wondered why her hair color is suddenly
changing. Blondes donít necessarily have more fun, and the lighter hair is
not doing it for her.
Why Phillip is giving Alexandra the time of day is puzzling to me. Maybe
he has selective memory, because everything that Alexandra has done for
him has backfired miserably. If he reinstates his great-aunt into
Spaulding, then something is wrong with him.
I havenít addressed this, but itís pretty odd that the prom in Springfield
takes place in July, and so does graduation. Most schools have already
been in summer vacation for a month at least. Also, Shayne is still
pitching for his baseball team in mid-July, and heís going to be in the
All-Star game for high school baseball. When does summer vacation take
place in Springfield?
Best scene of the week: Harley and Blake figuring out bruises on victimsí
Thatís all for this week.
