Marlena: Roman, we did as you asked. We went to the precinct and took the gunshot residue test.
Roman: I heard, and you both passed with flying colors.
John: We told you earlier we didn't shoot Stefano, as much as we would love to take credit for it.
Roman: And I also told you that Will's fingerprints were all over Abe's gun.
John: Well, yeah, well, so were mine. And so were hers, Bo, Hope--half of Salem.
Marlena: What is wrong with you? Have you forgotten that Will is your grandson?
Roman: Not for one damn minute.
Roman: John, you know me. If I have ever been anything, every step of the way, it's honest. Brutally honest, as a matter of fact, because that's the only way I know how to be. So no, I did not come here with ulterior motives. I do want to solve this case, and I'm not gonna play games. Especially when my grandson is being charged with murder. Now I get both of you are upset. So am I. So here is a little more brutal honesty. Every conversation I've had with the people who I love and trust the most in this world, I get a very strong feeling that somebody is lying to me.
EJ: I mean, you didn't seriously think I'd pay your bail out of the goodness of my heart, did you? Didn't think so.
Will: Okay, why? Is it because you know I didn't shoot Stefano?
EJ: I don't really have an opinion as to your innocence or guilt when it comes to my father's murder. I did it for the same reason that I do most things in life, William: Because it serves my purposes.
Rafe: So maybe you just pick up the phone, you call Carrie, and that's it.
Sami: Are you kidding? I mean, she got her law degree in Switzerland in, like, two months.
Rafe: I'm not.
Sami: Is it that you're having trouble with the fact that she's actually trying to make her marriage work--which I'm sure is a shocking concept for you. Or that you're dealing with rosemary's baby? I mean Nicole.
EJ: How much do you think that it would strengthen their case if they were to find out that you had experience handling a firearm? If they were to find out that you had used a firearm with the intent to kill someone? Because, William, it seems to me that that rather potent piece of information would speak to capability, would speak to motivation. And if a jury were to find out that it were me who you tried to kill, I think that would speak to the integrity of your character, William. So that crosses character off the list. Now let's go to motivation, shall we? If they were to find out that my father was blackmailing you with said information, you'd certainly have a reason to want him dead, would you not?
Will: That's not fair. You already used that to get me to work for you. So you can't blackmail me twice over the same thing.
EJ: [Chuckles] William, there's not a statute of limitations when it comes to your dubious personal history. Your previous experience with firearms and my family is a little bit like the gift that keeps on giving.
EJ: Look... how do I know that you're not his killer? I mean, what better way to honor my father's life than to put his killer in jail for the rest of his life?
Will: But what you're saying is that you'd be okay with me not being convicted as long as you get what you want, which is me doing whatever you tell me to do.
EJ: You know, William, I'm really beginning to admire your mental acuity. I think you and I are finally beginning to understand one another.
John: EJ DiMera. That's interesting. Considering the man never does anything out of the goodness of his heart.
Roman: You took the words right out of my mouth. If EJ posted bail for will, there sure as hell is something in it for him.
EJ: Are you threatening me, William?
Will: I don't know. I mean, if that's what it sounded like, I guess so.
Marlena: It seems like the only person you care about here, really, is Stefano.
Roman: You got to be kidding me. What? The only damn thing Stefano is to me here is a dead body and a murder victim.
Roman: We have a corpse. Will has been charged with murder. But I guarantee you that this is hardly a done deal. As a matter of fact, my gut tells me this case is gonna chew up a few other people before we close the file on it.
John: Well, you know what? That's the only thing he said tonight that I believe.
Will: What? I mean, are you starting to rethink this and think maybe I did shoot Stefano?
Sami: We have to make sure we don't give the police anything new that they can use against you.
Will: Well, wow, that's a ringing endorsement from my mother.
John: Who is?
Marlena: Stefano. He's tormenting us in death. As he did in life. I'm not sure it's ever going to end.
Roman: Normally--normally, I would agree with you, but not this time, uh-uh, no. I feel like I'm on a tightrope here. Now I have been able to maintain my balance, but I don't know how much longer I can do that. Rafe, I would trust you with this, and you would be doing me a big favor.
Rafe: I don't know, man. I... all right, I'm honored that you would think of me, but I'm as connected to these people as you are. Will was my stepson--
Roman: Yeah, yeah. No, no, you are connected to those people, no doubt about that. But I got bloodlines and/or longevity with those people that you don't. Rafe, you're good. You're experienced. And I know damn well you can be objective enough to handle this.
