Hope: I know. I mean, I am so happy, Dad.
Deacon: You know, I just-- I-I didn't think you'd want anything to do with me. I mean, I-I-I-I haven't been involved in your life.
Hope: No. No, you haven't. Why?
Deacon: Hope, your-- your mother's...she warned me to stay away from you.
Hope: Okay, well, that, you know, that wasn't her call. That was wrong.
Deacon: Yeah, I know. I know. But don't-- don't be too hard on her. She was--she was doing what she thought was best. Look, you don't know me, but I'm not a real stand-up guy. The last thing that you needed was some selfish jerk as a role model, and I ju--I just think things were better this way.
Hope: Well, I'm all grown up now, and I think that I am perfectly capable of handling selfish jerks... Especially one that I really care about.
