Jackie: Mr. Brynner was a very proud man who felt invincible most of his life. He was humbled by what happened to him, and he took responsibility, and he tried to help other people before he died.
Nick: Powerful. He was one of my favorite actors. I looked up to him.
Jackie: Then listen to him, Nicky. He said that if he could have gone back, he never would have smoked, but it was too late for him. He didn't get a second chance, but you do. You do have a chance to make changes in your life.
Nick: Mother, I respect the man. I really do, and I feel bad that-- that he died the way he did. But I'm different. I never smoked cigarettes, Mother. I have an occasional cigar. I just don't think that that's going to kill me.
Jackie: You're scared. Cigars have just become a friend to you. They're a terrible, terrible friend, but they are your friend. They're part of who you are, and they're part of your identity, and you don't want to lose that.
Nick: It's not that deep, Mother. I'm sorry. I mean, so I-I have a cigar every now and then. So what? It's not a big deal. Mother, I love you. Really, I appreciate your concern, but I'm just gonna handle this my way.
