ATWT Opinion Article

Week of June 30
By Anna
7/5/03

This week of As the World Turns didn’t feature much romance, but this didn’t matter because the action scenes were top-quality.

First of all, the change of Walker Daniels is suspicious. When he was brought into the show as a nice, polite forensic pathologist, I had no clue that he could up and just be rude to Hal. Granted, Hal had no business telling him to stop being a bully when Hal’s a bully himself, but still. And the scene where Walker was spying on Rick and Susan was just creepy. I almost shivered looking at his conniving face. It’s obvious that he’s now a candidate in the Memorial murders.

I thought it was hilarious when Craig and Jack were having their scenes on the porch this week. The “tell me a bedtime story” “I miss you” “I love you” dialogue was just more hilarious with Mike and Parker laughing in the background. The child actor playing Parker is great to watch in a time in which child actors on soaps aren’t exactly believable.

The wedding between Jack and Carly was fantastic, since the two should have been together already, but what really got to me was when Carly told Jack the baby was his. I was pretty shocked along with everybody else, since the baby had more of a chance to be Mike’s, but very relieved. I almost cried along with Jack when he found out the news. It was touching to see Mike’s sensitive side once he found out the truth, but I was annoyed that Molly was the one who was comforting him. It should have been Katie.

On a related note, the dress that Carly wore for the wedding was almost hideous. Maura West’s beautiful face made up for it, but it wasn’t exactly a stunning wedding dress. Jack’s attire similarly left something to be desired. I know they never intended on getting married, but I couldn’t help cringing as I watched Carly make her entrance.

The police have finally found the well; too bad the police had nothing to do with it. James Stenbeck and Lucy Montgomery had to lend a hand to its discovery. I’m just happy that we will no longer see Rose and Lily stuck in the well, because that scene became really old really fast. I’m really fueled up that Paul will return next week in the form of Roger Howarth; I’m almost sure that was the person who was watching the goings on between Brackett, Rose, and Paul at the end of this week’s show.

As usual, the Aliris scenes were terrific this week. Next week Chris will give Alison a birthday surprise, wonder what it will be??

Best scene of the week: Craig, Jack, Mike, and Parker having a great time on the porch.

Honorable mention: Alison and Chris scenes.

That’s all for this week.
