Random Thoughts, Questions, & Ideas

Just Some Observations:
This is my second to last column. After the show ends
next week, I will continue to write AMC trivia quizzes at
http://www.tvmegasite.net/day/amc/quizzes.shtml. When AMC reappears hopefully with Prospect Park, I will
continue my column.
I have been watching AMC for its entire run. It is truly
sinking in this week that next Friday will be the last day
it airs. Like many of you out there, I am starting to go
through withdrawal. However, I do not want to dwell on the
negative right now. What I want to talk about is how much
AMC has meant to me all these years. I think that ABC has
made a big mistake with the daytime shows being canceled and
these new shows taking their place. Daytime soaps have been
around so long, because they have given the viewers a brief
break in the lives. A short time to forget our chaotic
lives, keep homebound viewers company, and just let us have a
small window away from our troubles. Whether people are
watching live, recording, watching on SOAPnet or online, it
still fills a need for many of us. During the past 41 years,
I have watched the show by myself, with my college roommate,
with my late husband, with friends at work (we actually
bought a small B&W TV to have at work) and in these last
few years back to watching by myself again. I want to thank
all the members of the message boards for being there to
share thoughts, ideas, praise and disapproval with the show.
You have been like an extended family to me.
I was thinking the other night, while I was trying to get
to sleep, some of the storylines that in just the recent past
few years have showcased how great AMC could be. These two
storylines not only entertained but included so much of the
entire cast in its telling and even went on to launch future
storylines. I would love to hear from any of you out there
your thoughts and storylines that had an impact on you and
the show.
Michael Cambias Storyline: From the moment Michael
Cambias met Kendall at a trade show and followed her back to
PV, the ball was running. He destroyed so many people’s
lives in PV. It introduced us to his father Alex Sr. and the
idea of there being a “late" brother Alex Jr. (Zach).
Michael's rape of
Bianca and the stories that came out of that, his murder,
and the trial were spectacular to watch. The pairing of
unlikely characters in setting up Michael – Palmer and Adam,
Erica and David. Everyone in PV was either helping protect
Bianca and/or help Kendall pull the whole scam off or
vouching they themselves had a hand in Michael’s death. The
ramifications of that story unfolded for years.
Bomb Shelter Storyline: Again this was a story that began
when Greenlee (portrayed then by Sabine Singh) came back to
town announcing at Ryan and Annie’s wedding that they
were still married. Greenlee’s anger at everyone, blaming
them for her not having Ryan’s child. Greenlee’s momentary
kidnapping of Spike, the eventual car accident in which
everybody blamed Greenlee for Spike’s hearing loss. Kendall
vengeance against Greenlee and finally setting her up for
another kidnapping of Spike which sent her to jail. At the same
time, we had Annie’s brother Richie in town causing his own
havoc. Greenlee escaping jail with Aiden’s help, Richie
running Zach down with his car and leaving him. Greenlee and
Zach, enemies, falling into the bomb shelter and eventually
forming a friendship. The skeleton that
they discovered which would lead up to Jesse re-emerging.
Frankie unknown to us or his family, living in the woods and
helping Aiden eventually rescue Zach and Greenlee. Then
Aiden and Kendall having “grief sex” and the ramifications
of that.
Again I have left so much out of both these storylines,
as I could have written pages, but you get the drift.
These are not the only great stories on AMC by far,
but are just two examples of what great writing and acting AMC
had, and I think is still capable of having.
Remember that SOAPnet will be showing an AMC special I
believe both Saturday and Sunday night, and "The View" will
have a special on AMC’s last show on Friday, September 23.
To all my cyberfriends, enjoy our last week plus. I will
be thinking about all of you next Friday.
Well, that’s about all for now. Have a great week.
I would love to hear from any of my readers.
