My Trip to AMC
By Patti G

There is something I have wanted to do for
years and have always postponed for one reason or another. It took the
announcement that AMC is moving to the West Coast for me to get
really motivated.
On Monday, August 17, I traveled into NYC. I was
up at 5 a.m. and arrived at the AMC Studio at 66th Street and West End
Avenue around 7:30 a.m. There were two
young women already there; and fortunately for me, The View was not taping
that day. It was, however, 90 degrees or higher that day as well.
This is my commentary on what took place.
Click here to see the pictures I took,
and here to view the autographs.
The first actor I saw was Thorsten Kaye (Zach). I was so taken by
surprise, as well as being a bit intimidated, that all I could do was shout
out “Mr. Kaye." In all fairness, he was on the phone and
rushing, so I did not want to ambush him and come off like a psychotic fan.
He is just as handsome in person as on TV, but is much thinner than he
appears on TV.
Melissa Claire Egan (Annie) was the second star I saw. She is so tiny,
it is amazing. She is very pretty even coming in the morning without makeup. She
was listening to her iPod, which she dropped trying to sign my autograph sheet.
I took a picture of her before she was made up, then later when she was dressed
and came out for lunch. She was so nice, and I told her how much I love the new
Annie and how thrilled I was the day she told off Ryan for all his
transgressions. She just laughed and said thanks.
J.R. Martinez (Brot) showed up early and was so delightful to talk to.
I told him how much I have enjoyed his performance and his skill in learning the
acting profession. I also mentioned how grateful I was for his recovery from his
injury from the war. He appreciated that as well. I saw him two more times that
day. He even asked how many people I have seen, and that I picked a good day to
come down.
Alicia Minshew (Kendall)
totally surprised me in that she came down personally to pick up her lunch
from the deliveryman. I tried to get the security guards to ask her to turn
around for a picture, but they didn’t, so I just caught her running.
Brianne Moncrief (Colby) is adorable and so nice. She took a picture and gave me her autograph. Later
she came down to the reception area with Shannon Kane (Natalia) and Daniel
Kennedy (Petey)
to pick up their lunch.
Aiden Turner (Aidan)
actually snuck up behind me. He was very lovely and also took time for a
photo.
Debbi Morgan (Angie)
was in a hurry and trying to get through the door with her suitcase, but she
also took time to take a picture. She is also very petite. I saw her later
running back to the studio after lunch. I told her to slow down as it was
way too hot to be running.
Darnell Williams (Jesse) is just as handsome in person as on TV. He was very quiet, and although in a
hurry he signed my autograph sheet and took a picture.
With Cameron Mathison (Ryan) it's a case of hating the character but the actor is so charming. I had
actually met him two years ago at the Starbucks I was working at in New
Rochelle where he was playing golf that day. He was on the phone when I saw
him but gestured to me to hold on till he was off. He then talked to me for
a while, took a pic, signed an autograph, and then asked to see the pictures I
had on my autograph sheets.
Denise Vasi (Randi) is
really pretty and was so patient when the pen I had was not working, and I
was frantically trying to find my back up pen.
Cornelius Smith, Jr. (Frankie) looks just as handsome in person as he
does on TV. He was a bit in a rush and I had to give him a little push to stop
and sign my autograph sheets and take a picture. However, he like all the rest
were very lovely to see in person.
I almost did not recognize Jamie Luner (Liza) when she first came in as her hair is not as red as it
appears on my TV. She did not stop the first time I saw her, but when she
went out to lunch, she graciously took a photo.
Let me just say that I have been watching AMC since 1976, and I never
expected I would ever meet any of the actors. It was so refreshing to see them
as normal people just going to work doing what all of us do each day. Example,
CM was on the phone to someone about getting his car fixed and letting then know
how much he appreciated their help. I will tell you all that many times when the
actors first walked up, I almost did not recognize some of them as they look
different than on TV (not just because of makeup or clothes) but just normal.
Anyway, I am hoping I will get one more chance this fall to go down to the
studio again before they leave and maybe see the other actors that I missed on
this day.
I will be back with more observations and questions.
Well, that’s about all for now. Have a great week.
I would love to hear from any of my readers.
